the fall of 1987, 3 friends from high school decided to buy instruments
and form a band in a small town where there were no bands. But there
was only one problem. They didn't know how to play their instruments. Fast forward 10 years, hundreds of shows, and a handful of musicians later, they were playing SXSW, CMJ and releasing their own music. In the fall of 1999, Compound Red played their last show in their hometown of Milwaukee, WI where they shared the bill with Fugazi, Jet's to Brazil and The Promise Ring. It was an unforgetable 12 year stretch, and we felt it should be documented for those who remember, and for those to discover. The 2 cd set, "Press Play and Record" documents these 12 years.
